Introduction to Changjun High School International Department

Authorized by the Education Department of Hunan Province, Changjun International Department was established in 2010. The International Department is the first AP Center in Hunan authorized by the American College Board. Changjun has been committing to introducing high-quality overseas education resources to promote the improvement of the Chinese high-school teaching system, geared to international standards, and nurturing globally inter-disciplinary, innovative, high-competitive patriotic talents with international vision and excellent leadership.

Changjun High School International Department, based on the 100-year old Changjun High School, aims to forge an international education brand through all over China by introducing quality education resources from America. The International Department offers a 3-year fulltime high school course of study, helping the students to lay a solid foundation for their study through bilingual teaching and integrating IBDP、AP and SAT courses into curricular system of China.

The 150-care department, funded by Changsha Municipality (with over 300 million RMB),is located on the new campus of Changjun High School, with the first class teaching resources and school facilities and security management. The school inherits and adheres to the Changjun Principle of “Sincere, Honest, Calm, Persevering!” and aims to cultivate inter-disciplinary, innovative and highly competitive national talents with international vision and excellent leadership.

Since its establishment in 2010, the InternationalDepartment has successfully nurtured eight sessions of outstanding graduates and cultivated more than 600 excellent international talents for our country. 99% of students are admitted intothe top 100 universities of the United States, and nearly 70% of students enter the top 50. The classes were reputed as“the Marvelous Class for Studying Abroad”.

Students of our International Departmenthave been admitted into Brown University, University of Chicago, Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, Middlebury College, Imperial College London, McGill University, University of Toronto,Lausanne Hotel Management School and numerous other top universities in the world.

In the 2015 Sina Hunan International Education Ceremony held on January 9, 2016, in Changsha, Changjun High School International Department was rated“2015 Hunan Reliable International School”, the only international school that has received this honor in Hunan Province!

Though still young, the International Department has made remarkable achievements. Introduction to Changjun High School

Changjun School is recognized as the demonstration high school throughout Hunan province. Its history can be traced back to 1904, when Changjun was named “Changsha Prefectural School”, the only high school created by the magistrate of the Changsha Prefecture at that time. Then in 1912, the prefecture-based administrative regional planning system was abolished and Hunan Changjun Public School was established, based on the original Changsha Prefectural School. Since then, the school has been changed to First Union County School, Changjun Public School, Hunan Changjun Joint Middle School, Changsha First Middle School(1951), and Changsha Second Middle School. As of 1984, its name has been reverted to Changjun High School.

Changjun High School, with its motto of “Sincere, Honest, Calm, Persevering!” for over a century, has educated a total of 78,000 qualified graduates for society. Well-known teachers include Xu Teli, Li Weihan, Chen Zizhan, Zhou Shizhao, etc; the famous revolutionists, such as Li Lishan, Luo Zhanglong, Ren Bishi, Li Fuchun, Xiao Jinguang, Chen Geng, ZengSan; it also has 13 distinguished academics and the distinctive students like musician Lv Yi, the famous singer Zhang Ye, Chen Xiaoduo. Changjun High School has set up 17 Special Scholarship Funds and 4 Teaching Funds sponsored by its alumni, which are awarded to best students and teachers annually.

Changjun High School, with century long cultural heritage and school principle of “people-oriented education and pursuit of distinction,” has become the best known educational brand addressing the development mode of sustainability, internationalization and quality education which aims to lay a solid foundation for the students’ respective future careers.

Since 1995, the school has been taking the lead in improving teaching quality and has achieved numerous remarkable academic honors. A total of 254 students were accepted by Tsinghua University through the National College Entrance Examination from 2007 to 2012, and 552 students won first prize in the National Contest of Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology; 41 students were selected for the National Team, who won an International Olympic gold medals. The gymnastic team of school participated in the World School Games representing China seven times, winning 5 gold medals, 10 silver and 11 bronze; the Clear Pool Literature Association of Changjun was twice list in the top 100 National Middle School Literature Associations. The school social practice of “Walking into the Factory and the ‘New’ Rural Area” has become a well-known model of quality education both in and out of Hunan Province.

In addition to the academic achievements, the school has also won numerous awards in such diverse areas. Titles include “National Advanced Collective of School Democratic Management, National School of Sports and Health”, “National Exemplary Unit of Team Work”, “National Grass Root Organization of CPC”, “National Advanced Unit of Art Education”, “National Advanced Unit of Mental Health Education”, “National Advanced Unit of Campus Culture”, “Demonstration of Construction of Grass Root Level CPC Organizations”, “National Advanced Organization of Scientific Research”, and “National Advanced Unit of Composition Teaching” etc.

In the fall of 2009, a new campus--- the 150-acre Changjun Bilingual Experimental School, financed by the Municipality of Changsha(representing an investment of 320 million RMB), was built and put into use, opening a new era in the history of the school.
