Public welfare proposal

Finless porpoise is no longer alone because of your participation.

In 1990:3600,in 2006:1800,in2012:1045,in2018:1012, those numbers of living Yangtze finless porpoises show that they are declining rapidly in recent 30 years.

Porpoises extinction rate around Dongting Lake is the fastest in the entire Yangtze River basin. Without good protection, Yangtze finless porpoises will be completely extinct in the next 10-15 years.

Pengchen Li and ZhixuanFeng, students in Changjun International Department, were determined to participate in the protection of finless porpoises.

With the initiative of Pengchen Li and ZhixuanFeng, OuyangYinle, ShumanQi, HaixinPeng, YangMa, Zhonglin Li,and LinxuanLi, other students also joined in. They are jointly setting up a finless porpoises protection team soon.

The threat to the Yangtze River porpoises mainly comes from the influence of human activities. The high density of the Yangtze River, the noise of the busy shipping vessels and their propellers has become the biggest threat to porpoises. Furthermore, the influence of overfishing and illegal fishing, water pollution and construction of some water conservation facilities in Dongting Lake District are also factors for the decrease of porpoises. Up to now, a large number of stationary nets which is used in the lake area occupy a large number of surface water conservation facilities during dry season, and the influence of human activities is still intensified, which also makes the wild population of finless porpoises in the Yangtze river drop sharply.

Members of the public welfare team shared and discussed the current situation of the protection of finless porpoises and how to carry out the protection activities of the finless porpoises in the future.

At present, the porpoise public welfare group has raised the first batch of donations of 11156.97 Yuan to Poyang Lake leading Porpoise protection organization for the porpoise protection of the Lake daily Patrol.

Protect the porpoise, we've been in action! We hope those who read this article can also participate in the porpoise protection.
